Lyncat Tria

Automatic mode

By default, Tria proposes and you approve. Once you trust it, automatic mode files only what Tria is very sure about, and everything else waits for you in the inbox.

Sometimes it gets things wrong. Whatever it files on its own goes into the History and can be undone like anything else.

In the app

Go to Settings (⌘,) › Automatic Mode. Each space has its own switch, off by default.

With automatic mode on, Tria files whatever it reads with high confidence on its own. Doubts, duplicates and anything with medium or low confidence keep waiting in the inbox, under “Need your decision”.

When it files something, it lets you know with a notification: “Tria filed 3 documents.”, plus how many need your decision. Clicking it opens the History, on that batch.

For it to work, Tria has to be able to read what comes in on its own:

  • with permission to send granted;
  • with “Watch inboxes” turned on, in Settings › Watching;
  • with the app running, even without a window. “Open Tria at login” keeps it running all the time.

If you ask Siri to “Read the inbox with Tria” in a space with automatic mode on, it also files the high-confidence documents.

What you undo doesn’t come back on its own

If you undo something Tria filed, it goes back to the inbox and won’t be filed automatically again: the inbox reminds you “You already sent this back to the inbox once.” and waits for you to decide. That way, a mistake doesn’t repeat itself every time Tria reads.

In the CLI

bash
tria sort --autotria sort --auto --json# for scheduled jobs

--auto applies high-confidence proposals without asking and moves exact duplicates to the duplicates folder. Everything else stays in the inbox, and tria sort exits with 1 if anything is left pending. It also skips anything you’ve already undone once.

It never sends anything to the Trash: only you do that.

If the app is reading that space at that very moment, tria sort leaves it alone: it exits with an error and you try again later. It’s all in Scripts and --json.

Before you turn it on

How often is Tria right when it says “high confidence”? tria eval measures it with your rules, on an archive you’ve already sorted, without touching the originals: look at the high-confidence line in tria eval.

And every time you correct a proposal, Tria suggests a rule. The more you add to TRIA.md, the more it will be sure about: Ask Tria explains how.
