What is Tria
Tria sorts your documents with AI, following your rules, written the way you’d explain them to a person. You drop documents in an inbox; Tria reads them, proposes a clear name and a folder for each one, and you decide.
Tria isn’t on the Mac App Store yet: it’s coming soon. If you’d like to know on day one, write to hola@lyn.cat.
Tria is a Mac app and a command-line tool (CLI). Both run on the same engine and work on the same folder.
How it works
- Drop your documents in the inbox. Drag them onto the Tria window or save them to your space’s inbox folder.
- Tria reads them and proposes. It pulls out the text on your Mac, scans included, and the AI reads it with your rules. For each document it proposes a name and a folder, with the reason.
- You review and approve. All at once, one by one, or after changing whatever you like. Only then does anything move.
For example, Scan_20261011_0012.pdf lands in the inbox and ends up as Invoice Bay Stationery - 2026-10-11.pdf in 2-Invoices Received/2026/Q4.
What Tria never breaks
- It always reads the content. It doesn’t trust the file name. If it can’t read a document, it doesn’t guess: it leaves it in the inbox with a note.
- It never deletes or overwrites. It only moves and renames. If the name is taken, it adds “(2)”. Nothing goes to the Trash unless you send it there.
- When in doubt, it asks. If it’s torn between two folders or can’t find the date, it doesn’t force an answer: it leaves you the proposal and the reason.
- Everything can be undone. Every move is logged in your folder. Undo a whole batch or a single document.
- Your documents aren’t stored. With your key, they go straight to your provider. With Tria AI, they pass through the Start.cat server, which doesn’t store them.
Tria’s vocabulary
| Word | What it is |
|---|---|
| Space | A folder Tria sorts. You can have several: Office, Home… |
| Inbox | The folder in the space where you drop what comes in. In the templates, 99-Pendiente. |
| Rules | The TRIA.md file: your folders, how each document is named and the special cases. |
| Profile | The PERFIL.md file: who owns the archive. |
| History | What’s been moved, batch by batch, with where it came from and why. You undo from here. |
Everything lives inside the space’s folder, so the app and the CLI see the same thing.
What it can read
PDFs, with text or scanned; images (JPG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, GIF and BMP); Word (.doc and .docx), RTF and ODT; Excel (.xlsx); and CSV, TXT and Markdown. A password-protected PDF or a format it doesn’t know, like old .xls files, stays in the inbox with the reason.
