Tria AI

Tria AI is how you use the app without a key for any AI. Start.cat provides the model and you pay per document: no subscription, no account and nothing to set up.

Tria AI is only in the app. The CLI always works with your own Anthropic or OpenAI key.

How it works

If you haven’t added a key, the app uses Tria AI without you having to choose anything. For each document:

  1. Tria pulls out the text on your Mac and sends just what’s needed to the Start.cat server, in the EU.
  2. The server checks with Apple that the request comes from someone who has downloaded Tria, and takes the document off your balance.
  3. It asks Claude in Europe for the proposal, through Amazon Bedrock, and sends it back to you.

The server doesn’t store the content of your documents. What leaves your Mac and what’s stored is all in What gets sent.

Pricing

Documents with Tria AIPrice
Trial20Free
Unlocking the app200 included€9.99, a single payment
Pack500, no expiry€8.99

Packs can be bought once the app is unlocked. Everything is paid through Apple’s in-app purchases, and there’s a single balance for all your spaces. The exact price is the one the App Store shows you in your country.

What comes off your balance

  • Each document read takes off 1, short or long. Even when the AI is unsure: it has read the document and proposes something, even if it asks you to decide.
  • Reading again counts too. If you change the rules or the profile, whatever had been read in the inbox goes back to “Unread”, and each document takes off 1 when it’s read again. During the trial, reading one of your 20 documents again doesn’t use up another slot.
  • These don’t count: anything served from the cache, exact duplicates (they’re set aside without the AI) and reads that fail on the server or in the model.

Ask Tria and rule suggestions don’t come off your balance. They work during the trial and once the app is unlocked, with a daily request limit.

Where to see your balance

In Settings (⌘,) › AI Source, in Usage (⌘5), at the bottom of the sidebar and in the menu bar panel. If you ask Siri “How much have I spent on Tria?”, it answers in documents.

From Settings and from Usage you can buy more with “Buy 500 Documents…”. If the app isn’t unlocked yet, you’ll see “Unlock…” instead.

If you run out

Tria stops reading and lets you know in the inbox: “You’ve run out of Tria AI documents”. Whatever comes in waits in the inbox, nothing gets lost. You can buy a pack or, if you’ve saved a key, click “Use My Key”. Tria never switches to your key on its own.

There’s also a daily document limit. If you reach it, Tria tells you and carries on the next day.

Switching to your own key

In Settings › AI Source, choose “My Key” and add your Anthropic or OpenAI key: you sort with no limit and pay your provider. You can also stay on Tria AI and save a key just so you can “Use My Key” when your balance runs out. Your API key explains how.
